Center Hill Lake
With shores spanning in DeKalb, Putman, White and Warren counties, Center Hill Lake shares lakeside with a handful of Tennessee’s State Parks, including Edgar Evins, Rock Island and Burgess Falls State Parks. During peak months, Center Hill Lake is an 18,000+ acre hot spot of outdoor recreation. Outfitted with three main marinas, Center Hill Lake offers boat and water-sport rentals. There are several beautiful locations for cabin and lodging accommodations, perfect for any kind of getaway. The popular Hurricane Marina is the home of the acclaimed, dock-style dining experience at Blue Water Grille.
Fall Creek Falls State Park
Fall Creek Falls State Park is renowned throughout the Upper Cumberland for its expansive beauty and eclectic recreational opportunities. This park features one of the tallest, vertical-plunge waterfalls in Tennessee, soaring over 250 feet above ground. Fall Creek Falls State Park is the host of frequent popular events and activities, such as an 18-hole golf course, musical concerts and crafting sessions. For nature-lovers, this park is overflowing with activities including bird watching, nature hikes and fishing. There are long and short trails to the bottom of the falls, with varied level of intensity, welcoming hikers of all ages and levels of experience.
Dale Hollow Lake
From Algood, hop on Highway 111 North and enjoy a gorgeous, 45-minute drive all the way to Dale Hollow Lake. Dale Hollow Lake is the pride of northern Tennessee’s natural attractions. Sunset Marina – seated on the water – offers delicious dining, boat rentals, and cabin accommodations. Not only will you enjoy the crystal-clear water and pristine shores, Dale Hollow Lake offers a nationally famed sweet-spot for bass and trout fishing, Dale Hollow Lake also presents an enjoyable swimming, park and picnic experience alongside its naturally beautiful shoreline.
Cummins Falls State Park
The newest addition to the Tennessee State Park family, Cummins Falls is the eighth largest waterfall in the Tennessee, towering at 75 feet. The entrance to the park is located north of Cookeville on the Blackburn Fork State Scenic River. Just off the beginning of the trails, the grand overlook of Cummins Falls surmounts the beautiful gorge, and the trek to the bottom is a not for the faint of heart. The hike to the base of the falls is approximately 1.5 miles. If you’re up for the challenge of rugged terrain, and elevation plunges and wet feet, the bottom the gorge will take the rest of your breath away. There is a refreshing “plunge pool” situated at the bottom of falls that will invigorate you before the hike back up.
Bryan Fine Arts Building
The Bryan Fine Arts Building is located on the left of the North Dixie entrance to Tennessee Tech University. It is the home of frequent music and art exhibitions featuring a variety of creative genres. During the school semesters, the classically beautiful Wattenbarger Auditorium stages weekly recitals performed by accomplished and talented faculty ensembles and guest artists. 4th of July
Every year we celebrate the 4th of July with Fire works and other assorted activities. This celebration happens the Saturday before the 4th of July in Algood, TN.
Upper Cumberland Quilt Festival
This very popular event happens every September in Algood, TN. See their website for the details and dates of the event.
quilt-festival.comThe festival has grown each year in number and quality of quilts displayed, now numbering over 600 quilts each festival. Quilt Guilds from the Upper Cumberland have displayed their guild’s quilts in historic homes for the past several years. Attendees have been able to participate in a “Quilt Walk” to view quilts and homes. This has created interest not only in the fine quilts but also in the local architectural history of Algood. The latest project associated with the festival is the “Quilt Trail” where quilt patterns are painted on beautiful area barns.
Background:
The Upper Cumberland Quilt Festival (U.C.Q.F.) was organized in 1988 as a major fundraiser for the Algood Senior Citizens Center and has continued to be an annual event for the City of Algood and for the Upper Cumberland Region. It provides an opportunity for showcasing the quilts of women and men of the region, state and surrounding states.
The U.C.Q.F. mission continues to be : “to preserve the art and heritage of quilting and related arts, showcase quilts and needle arts, and provide education and a meeting place of experts in the related fields”.
Algood Christmas Parade
This event is held on the first Saturday in December of each year and is co-sponsored by the Algood Police Department, the Algood Fire Department, and the City of Algood. Angel Tree donations and gifts are accepted to be distributed to the community for those less fortunate during the holiday.
White Plains Historic Home
The White Plains Historic Home of Algood is open at select times of year for community events sponsored by the City of Algood and the Friends of White Plains nonprofit organization. An open house is typically held each December, with other special events taking place in conjunction with other community events including the annual Quilt Festival.
